The Pennsylvania House approved a $27.15 billion state budget Wednesday in Harrisburg, that cuts state spending, holds the line on taxes, and gives the state its first on-time spending plan in 8 years. Rep. Todd Rock Comments on His Legislation to End Teacher Strikes in Pennsylvania - 6/7/2011
At a time when Pennsylvania holds the unenviable title as the “Teacher Strike Capital of the United States,” lawmakers in Harrisburg have introduced new legislation that would outlaw public school teacher strikes. Bill sponsor, Rep. Todd Rock (R-Franklin) said his legislation would protect the right of the students in Pennsylvania public schools to receive a free and uninterrupted education. The STRIKE-FREE Education Act would immediately outlaw teacher strikes and provides financial penalties that include teachers losing two days of pay for each day of an illegal strike. Castle Doctrine legislation, which would allow Pennsylvania Citizens to use lethal force to protect themselves or their family members, has been approved by the House Judiciary Committee in Harrisburg. Rep. Todd Rock (R-Franklin) said law-abiding citizens should have the right to choose how to defend themselves when faced with a hostile situation. A constitutional amendment to ban teacher strikes in Pennsylvania has been introduced in Harrisburg. The Strike-Free Education Amendment would prevent the economic and parenting hardships brought about when strikes result in school closures. Rep.
